Job Description
Trainspotter: our chief ambassador, blogger, social media expert
£20,000 to £35,000 pro rata (depending on experience)
Overview
This is a rare opportunity for an outgoing, creative, digital-media enthusiast with excellent communication skills to join global travel experts in redefining modern rail travel. The team is comprised of successful entrepreneurs who have extensively researched the UK travel and rail markets and have a track record of solving millions of customers’ needs online.
The chosen applicant will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and will be responsible for creating compelling editorial content for a new rail booking site to launch in the upcoming months. We aren’t looking for someone to blog about leaves on the line or the wrong kind of snow. This is an opportunity to be creative and formulate fun, insightful and informative posts that will engage rail travellers and keep them coming back to our site time and again.
- Social media and content publishing – blogging (quirky rail spotting), creating videos, podcasting, commissioning guest bloggers (bring out your inner Borat and get the celeb of your dreams to endorse rail travel) and sharing general rail-related banter
- Research – staying abreast of travel trends using online and offline tools
- Customer interaction – interviewing rail users, travel experts and celebs
- Guerilla marketing – engaging rail passengers and promoting other brand campaigns
Requirements
You will be joining a great team in a hands-on role that combines leadership, strong editorial, brand strategy and execution skills. The successful candidate will be:
- Degree educated
- A strong media savvy individual with exceptional oral and written communication skills
- An innovative user of digital and social media
- An extrovert with the ability to put an interesting spin on a story and offer a well-supported opinion on news and feature topics. You need to have the creativity and perseverance to find the needle in the haystack
- An experienced/passionate (rail) traveller
- A self-starter who possesses the skill and drive to be part of an exciting start-up venture
- Able to travel within the UK from National Rail stations in London
Initially, the successful candidate will be offered a 6-month contract with a pro-rata basic salary of between £20,000 and £35,000, depending on qualifications and experience. At the end of the 6 months, there may be the opportunity to join our team on a permanent basis.
